The time spent on the job by technicians differs from that of other employees because their time is being purchased by the dealership for resale to service customers. It is important the dealer track the number of technician hours being sold. This can be accomplished by using the Daily Time and Job Ticket form.
This Daily Time and Job Ticket is a triplicate form and should be prepared by the technician, the service advisor or service manager. When the technician prepares the form, it should be checked and authorized by management.
The original form is perforated and gummed so when each repair job is completed a section may be detached and affixed to the repair order. The second copy of the form should be used for accounting purposes and checked against the accounting copy of the repair order and then used as the basis for the technician’s compensation. The technician should keep the third copy of the form.
Today with the use of electronic payroll, the use of job tickets for “flagging” technician’s time is eliminated. Dealerships using Electronic Payroll systems should follow their Dealer Service Provider (DSP) instructions.
