Employee Retention
Office Functions And Duties Of Office Employees
Retaining quality employees is a key element in successful dealership operations. Excessive employee turnover can dramatically increase personnel costs, lower productivity and causes dealership management to spend a considerable amount of time involved in the process and away from performing other job duties. To help reduce employee turnover new employees should be carefully selected by screening employment applications, reviewing work history and verifying background and personal references.
In addition to careful selection, training new employees is critical to employee retention. New employees should feel confident in their new positions and should be provided with the training tools necessary to perform their job functions properly. Formal training, provided by an outside training company can motivate and create productive working environments. This can be expensive however, and can increase training costs. If formal training is not feasible, lower cost training alternatives should be considered. For example, conferences, seminars, video training and correspondence courses are less expensive and the benefits of proper training will help reduce employee turnover. On-the-job training or training provided in-house can also be beneficial by allowing management to pass on their knowledge and experiences. In-house training should be carefully monitored so that it does not interfere or limit the time managers devote to performing other duties.
The main training objectives should be to make new employees feel confident and comfortable in their new positions, learn employee benefits, learn the dealership policies, procedures and culture, as well as provide the new employee with the necessary tools to perform their job functions.
